At Jungle Culture we have a unique view on product sourcing. We have created an ethical supply chain, powered by small farms, craft workshops and transparent factories. Part of our philosophy as an ethical business is to empower and support developing communities by working together to create environmentally friendly, unique plastic-alternatives. Our range of eco-friendly products are all responsibly sourced, in person, by us, so that you, the consumer does not have to bear the burden of responsibility when you shop with Jungle Culture.

Developing a sustainable supply chain isn’t easy. Our team have spent years searching for high-quality Earth-friendly products, produced by people whose values are aligned to ours. Allow us to introduce you to some of the people that made Jungle Culture possible.

We strongly believe that businesses should bear the responsibility to ensure that their products are made ethically. This is why we take a hands-on approach to product sourcing and build deep relationships with our team of craftsmen and women. When we design and create our sustainable products, we take the time to visit the farms and workshops that manufacture them first, oversee their operation and ensure that everything is created fairly, whilst minimising waste.

The Story Behind Our Bamboo Cutlery...

Our bamboo cutlery is hand carved at a carpentry studio located approximately 150km from Hanoi, in the rural province of Thanh Hoa.

The topography of Thanh Hoa province makes it the perfect location for bamboo growth. Large swathes of the region are covered in steep, rocky mountains and the annual rainfall average in Thanh Hoa sits at around 1800mm (more than 3 times the average in stereotypically rainy London).

The unique ecosystem in Thanh Hoa means that bamboo can grow in abundance, and can be sustainably farmed by local people who have used it for construction and handicrafts for generations.

The Jungle Culture team was first introduced to the region when we sourced our bamboo straws from a nearby farm in 2018. In 2019 we returned to meet with a group of talented artisan craftspeople who had heard about our work with small-scale Vietnamese manufacturers.

Our new artisan partners in Thanh Hoa are devoted naturists who live, surrounded by mountains in a small enclave of bamboo bungalows. The people are committed to supporting ethical and organic production and use only basic tools to aid the creation of their products.

Our design team has worked with them over the past year to create a unique, durable and organic bamboo cutlery set that can last a lifetime and help combat waste as a replacement for disposable plastic cutlery.

Meet The Maker

Our bamboo cutlery sets were initially carved by Há, a devoted naturist who has worked with bamboo his entire life.

The popularity of our utensil set has prompted Há to employ and train his family, friends and several other villagers to carve bamboo cutlery. Providing them with jobs and skills while he has turned his focus to building bamboo houses which serve as accommodation for members of the local community.

Há treats his workers with respect and pays them fairly which was what first attracted us to his crafts. He now employs between 5-10 people who carve cutlery and help with the construction of his bamboo houses.
