  • Beeswax Wraps Co. was created by Carly and Fran for two reasons. Firstly, they were worried about the effect of plastic cling film to our world. Secondly, they were worried about what effect plastic was having on the health of their families.

After many failed experiments they came up with a recipe that not only protected their food, but actually made it last longer. They saw that their bread lasted 3-4 days longer than when it was kept in their bread bins. Cheese no longer grew a film texture when stored. They realised that not only were their wraps helping lower plastic waste, they were also helping lower food waste. And so Beeswax Wraps Co. was born.

In Depth: Food Wrapping

Homes in the UK use more than 1.2 billion metres of cling film per year.

That equates to around 745,000 miles which is enough to travel from The Earth to the Moon 3 times.

Cling film is particularly difficult to recycle and much of it ends up in the ocean where it is often mistaken for sea creatures such as jellyfish.

This means it poses a huge danger to marine life as animals such as turtles confuse cling film for food and ultimately choke.
