About 1 billion toothpaste tubes are sent to landfills every year.
Toothpaste tubes are made from either aluminium or plastic. The process of creating aluminium is highly wasteful and plastic tubes are rarely recycled due to the complex nature of separating the leftover contents from the toothpaste packaging.
In addition to this, the chemicals and microbeads found in some toothpastes cause immense damage and harm to our environment when washed down the drain.
Every year in the US alone over 1 billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown away.
That's enough to circle the Earth 4 times!
Conventional toothbrushes are made from polypropylene plastic and nylon. Both of these materials are made using non-renewable fossil fuels, with the production of nylon being especially harmful to the environment.
If everyone switched to bamboo toothbrushes it would prevent an estimated 22 million kilograms of waste every year in the US alone.
