Our venture into bamboo products began a few years ago in Mexico. We - Chris and Jamie, the co-founders of Jungle Culture - crossed paths whilst travelling. We felt curious about how we could preserve the natural world. This idea cultivated into finding ways to reduce plastic pollution and an alternative to the use of single-use plastics. We knew that any business we created must benefit local communities and work in harmony with the natural environment, never against it.
Fast forward a couple of years; we launched our first eco-friendly products in August 2018 - our signature Jungle Straws. Our sustainable products are ethically sourced from only what is available in abundance thanks to the might of nature. Bamboo, the very lungs of the East. Jungle Straws are handmade at a single family-run farm owned by Ha Van Thom, or as we affectionately call him, Thombinh.
Thombinh comes from a long line of rice farmers who, until recently used their family farm for the production of grains and rice to sell in Vietnam’s bustling markets.
Propelled by a desire to help Vietnamese businesses lower their waste, Thombinh took a risk and converted his farm into a production centre for bamboo products.
The success of bamboo drinking straws has allowed Thombinh to expand his workshop and employ more local villagers, friends and extended family.
Thombinh is a devoted religious man, humble and hard-working. His caring nature immediately endeared him to us and he has since become a friend of the Jungle Culture team.
