Metal Safety Razors vs. Straight Razors (Cut Throat Razors)
Metal safety razors like the ones we make at Jungle Culture are designed to make shaving safer and more comfortable for the user. Straight razors have a learning curve and it may take a few weeks to a few months before you can shave without cutting yourself with a straight razor. However, safety razors are designed to be picked up by beginners and used without fear in minutes.
At Jungle Culture, we’ve taken safety razors one step further and designed a razor that’s even safer than a metal reusable safety razor. Our eco-friendly razors have curved edges to prevent cuts when replacing your razor blades whilst the design of our sustainable shavers naturally funnels hair out from underneath, preventing razor clogs.
Safety Razor FAQ
Is Shaving with a Safety Razor Better?
We may be biassed, but we think that shaving with a traditional metal safety razor vs. a cheap plastic disposable razor is not a contest. Shaving with a shaving razor is a luxurious experience, it’s safer, cheaper and better for our planet.
When you purchase a safety razor, you’re buying for life and whilst plastic razors may be convenient, a quality safety razor makes a big difference to your shaving experience. It’s like being at a spa in your own home!
Can you shave pubic hair with a safety razor?
Absolutely. Our safety razors use specially designed ridges to funnel hair follicles into the path of the blade, the ridges are designed to only funnel hair, not skin. You can use your Jungle Culture safety razor in the exact same way that you use a plastic disposable razor.
How many shaves should a safety razor blade last?
Safety razor blades typically last from 5-10 shaves per side (10-20 shaves in total). But this varies depending on the blade and the person who is using the razor.
Our advice is to replace your safety razor blade when it starts to feel uncomfortable. Reusable safety razor blades are just £3.99/per 10 blades or even cheaper if you purchase using a razor blade subscription. Even if you only use the blade 10 times, that is still just £0.04/per shave.
We’d also highly recommend purchasing a razor blade storage bank or keeping a small box to put your used blades in. Remember that razor blades cannot be recycled at a standard recycling plant because
ALL blades are coated to help them glide across your skin. Storing the used blades can help you to recycle them more easily in bulk. If you need any help recycling your blades, consult our recycling guide.
