Are safety razor blades universal?

Are Safety Razor Blades Universal?

Yes. All safety razor blades are universal. Double edged or DE blades will fit into any butterfly razor or doubled-edged razor. But you should still pay attention to the quality of the blade you buy for your eco-friendly reusable razor.

How to choose a safety razor blade:

Using a safety razor is not only the most eco-friendly and sustainable way to shave, but it will also shave valuable dollars, pennies and euros off of your razor blade bill.

But before you get started with your new eco-friendly safety razor, let's answer a few questions…

What types of reusable razors are there?

Reusable razors come in an array of different shapes and sizes. At Jungle Culture we produce 3 piece safety razors as we believe that they give the safest and best shave!

Here is a list of the different types of reusable razors available today:

- 3 Piece safety razors
- Butterfly safety razors
- Straight edged razors

The top two options, 3 piece razors and butterfly razors are essentially the same thing, except 3 piece razors unscrew, whereas butterfly razors open to allow you to place a blade inside.

Both butterfly and 3 piece razors use double-edge safety razor blades, whereas straight razors, sometimes known as cut throat razors use single sided razor blades (or double edge blades snapped in half).

Do all safety razor blades fit in all safety razors?

Whether you buy blades from your local barbershop, Amazon, a pharmacy or literally anywhere else on the planet you can rest assured that all safety razor blades fit into all safety razors.

Safety razor blades are designed the exact same way around the world, as are safety razors. There is a global standard, so that’s one less thing you need to worry about!

What is the difference between safety razor blades?

Although all safety razor blades have identical shapes and sizes, the difference is in the sharpness of the blade.

A quality double-edged razor blade is extremely sharp, made from a hybrid of metals and coated to provide a smooth, but close shaving experience.

There are many reputable and non-reputable razor blade vendors around the world and we would recommend sticking to a household name. Below is a list of quality razor blade brands who produce fine, sharp and safe safety razor blades. You can buy Shark razor blades from us or Jungle Culture razor blades too! You can also find handy little razor blade recycling tins on our website too.

Best safety razor blades

  • LORD (produces LORD blades and Shark blades)
  • Astra (Owned by Gillette)
  • Wilkinson
  • Dorco
  • Derby
  • Feather
  • Tiger blades

Any razor blades purchased from the companies above will be sharp and smooth enough to provide you with a high quality shave!

Are all safety razors the same?

Firstly, let’s clear something up. There is no such thing as the “best” safety razor.

Safety razors come in all shapes and sizes and some razors may feel comfortable to some people, whereas others might dislike the texture of the grip, the handle length or the weight.

All of our safety razors have a perfectly weighted handle and we generally recommend anybody hunting for a razor to ensure that the handle is well weighted and balanced to ensure an easy shave.

Aside from this, handle length, grip style and aesthetics are mostly a matter of personal preference!

It is sometimes said in shaving blogs that women favour long handled safety razors because they are less weighty, but in our experience this claim has little merit.

One thing that we would say is that if you do find a safety razor to be heavy in your hand, a shorter handle may suit you better as the weight distribution is better for people who aren’t able to hold heavier objects.

Which grip is best on a safety razor?

We produce razors with textured grips, shapely handles and a range of sustainable bamboo razors. All of our grips are easy to hold and non-slip. Again, none are best, just different!

Can you mix and match safety razors and blades?

Sure! Just because you own a Jungle Culture safety razor, it does not mean that you need to use Jungle Culture blades.

Feel free to mix and match any and all types of safety razors and blades!

Can women use safety razors?

Of course they can!

Safety razors are often bulky, silver and generally very manly-looking in the traditional sense of the word! However, the perception that only men can use safety razors is absolutely 100% flawed.

All safety razors are unisex, but Jungle Culture also produces a range of ladies eco-friendly razors that are a bit lighter in the hand than traditional safety razors!

How do I get started with sustainable shaving?

Shaving sustainably is easy once you develop a sustainable shaving routine. It seems a little bit daunting at first, mainly because it’s different from what we are used to, but once you start using reusable shaving tools, you won’t look back!

Just to make things even easier, Jungle Culture has written this extensive user guide for shaving with a safety razor.

We also know that a lot of people are visual, so here are a few fantastic video tutorials for using safety razors!
